What this MVP does not compare
WorkbookDiff currently supports `.xlsx` files only. It does not recalculate formulas or resolve external links.
Formatting, charts, pivot tables, comments, named ranges, macros, password protection, author identity, timestamps, and reordered-row reconciliation are not included.
Privacy by architecture
Workbook bytes stay in your browser
The selected files are read into browser memory for this comparison. WorkbookDiff does not persist them in cookies, local storage, IndexedDB, or page URLs.
Validation events contain only coarse categories and numeric counts. They never include file names, worksheet names, addresses, values, formulas, or workbook bytes.

Before you compare
Are my Excel files uploaded?
No. WorkbookDiff reads and compares selected XLSX files in your browser. The comparison workflow does not upload workbook bytes.
What changes does WorkbookDiff detect?
Cell value and formula expression changes, added or removed worksheets, worksheet visibility, hidden rows and columns, and used-range changes.
Which Excel formats are supported?
This MVP supports `.xlsx` files up to 20 MB each. It does not support `.xls`, `.xlsm`, `.xlsb`, CSV, ODS, or password-protected files.
Does it compare formatting, charts, or pivot tables?
No. The current audit focuses on workbook content and structural signals. See the limitations above for the complete boundary.
